As the Capital gears up to host the historic 2009 Formula 1TM Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Flash brings to Abu Dhabi’s shores an out-of-the-ordinary entertainment spectacle. Flash is proud to introduce Yasalam – a sensational series of events and entertainment that will ensure the whole city gets into the spirit of Formula 1TM.

Yasalam is Arabic for fantastic, amazing and astonishing. And that’s exactly how you will feel about the events we have lined up for you to enjoy.

The Yasalam calendar includes free live music concerts and movie nights on the Corniche, public art events with local artists customizing replica F1TM cars and screenings of the big races live from Abu Dhabi’s first F1 Fan ZoneTM. Throw into the mix a Brazilian parade, photography exhibition, and a host of fun motorsport workshops, and what you can expect is a fun filled few weeks in Abu Dhabi.

Yasalam events take place on Abu Dhabi Corniche, Yas Island, and at many locations across the city, so browse the site, explore what we’ve got lined up for you and jot the dates down in your calendar.

Freshlyground (South Africa)

Freshlyground is a South African Afro-fusion band that was formed in Cape Town in 2002. The band members are from South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Stylistically, Freshlyground incorporates elements of traditional South African music (such as kwela and African folk), blues and jazz, as well as features of indie rock. The lead singer is Zolani Mahola whose distinctive voice contributes much to the band's unique sound.

Fares Karam (Lebanon)

Fares Karam released the 2006 hit song "Al Tannoura" and received world wide acclaim making it the anthem of 2006 and the song that catapulted Fares to amongst the elite performers note only in Lebanon but across the Arab World. Fares Karam's latest album "Yo'borni" featured the ground breaking songs, "Niswanji", "Khityar 'al 'Ikezi" and "Yo'borni" making it the highest selling album in 2007 and boosting Fares musical career to a whole new platform. Fares Karam has quickly succeeded in standing out amongst all the artists and is now considered the number one artist that sings traditional Lebanese songs.

Beat Antenna (UAE)

Voted best rock band in Dubai by Time Out readers in May 2009, the band are starting to make waves. Their debut EP released in April 2009 has received recognition from all corners with their live performances supporting International artists The Charlatans and Arrested Development underlining the arrival of this fresh and energetic group of lads originally from the UK.

Soul II Soul is the British double award-winning Grammy act that emerged from London at the end of the 1980s. Famously known for the hits "keep on movin & back to life (however do you want me), these songs set the tone for early 1990 mainstream dance in the UK. Raghab Alama

Ragheb Alama was born in June 7th, 1962 in Beirut, Lebanon. Ragheb distinguished in singing in his early age and his courage. Ragheb took up playing the lute "Oud" and participated in a live radio program while he was 8 years old. At that time, his biggest achievement was participating in the most important program on TV for talents called "Studio El Phan", meaning, "Studio of Art". He achieved the Platinum award in that program. In April, 2009 and for the first time in the Arab world, Ragheb Alama achieved the platinum award from Virgin Megastore in Dubai for the highest sales of albums among others.

Dahab

"DAHAB" is an acoustic trio that was created by Sharif Maghraby (composition, lead and rhythm guitars, vocals) , Majed Fassi (composition, lead and rhythm guitars, vocals) and Adham Sharkawy (percussion) in 2004. Our music can be defined as "acoustic ethnic rock with a 70's influence." We are inspired by Sinai - a magical and sacred land.

'DAHAB' is actually a small Bedouin village in Sinai about 100km north of Sharm El Sheikh and it is renowned as a place where musicians and artists go to create and improvise.. This is the essence of our band and most of our music has been composed in Sinai."

Mohamed Hamaki

Mohamed Hamaki is a famous Egyptian young singer, his full name is Mohamed Ibrahim Hamaki.
Mohamed Hamaki first appeared to public through his first song
entitled "Al Helw Yehib El Heneya" a song which was released in a variety album called Lekaa Al Nugoom with other rising artists in 1996. The album was the work of Hamid El Shari who discovered and introduced Hamaki to the music business and to the public.
Mohamed Hamaki first album was entitled Khallena Neesh which means Let us Live, the album was released in the year 2003, it included ten great songs, arranged by the arranger Tarek El Madkour.

Dany Neville (Radio 1)

Being the youngest professional dj/radio presenter in the Middle East to hit the scene in august of 2000, Dany Neville was instantly noticed for his diverse knowledge of music. 'Radio 1' offered the then-17 year old the grave yard shift between 2a.m to 6 a.m, only to watch as he stormed the industry for the past 8 years under their wings. Hosting 'THE EDGE' on Radio 1 every Saturday from 7p.m to 10p.m, as well as holding the MTV Arabia's official DJ title with gigs booked on every level in Dubai and around the world; Dany is set to be a huge representative of the U.A.E music scene.

Kamal Musallam Group (UAE)

Jordanian musician Kamal Musallam, born in 1970, is a pioneer of Arabic Fusion since 1999 with two releases "On A Jordan River's Side" and "Out Of My City". He transports audiences to a magical world of music through the dulcet tones of his traditional Arabic Oud, and the newly invented instrument "the Glissentar". Famed for his exotic musical combinations of traditional Arabic tunes with Flamenco and Jazz, he has performed with international artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Randy Brecker and Stanley Jordan among many others.

Wasel Safwan

An architecht by training, Safwan has participated in a large number of solo and group exhibitions and was notably commissioned to paint level 84 of the World's tallest tower- the Burj Dubai. In 2001 his first exhibition piece in UAE's inaugural Biennale Exhibition for Fine Arts earned Safwan first prize. Known for his bright and colourful "UAE-isitc' design, Safwan has named his car"UAE'ism Abu Dhabi".

Dana Saif Al- Mazrouei

One of Abu Dhabi's finest young artists, Dana's work has been showcased in high profile public venues such as Harvey Nichols Dubai, Zayed University, Media City and Emirates Palace. Dana carried out her research for this initiative by watching and analyzing various Formula OneTM races and has named her concept for the F1TM replica car "Unity" to depict the exciting link between Abu Dhabi and Formula OneTM

Mizmah

Often referred to as the "UAE's art girl band" Mizmah is a group of six young female Emirati artists. The girls chose to use calligraphy and graffiti as the main decorative elements on the car and the design also incorporates some on the most famous F1TM drivers and throughout the design they demonstrate Emirati youth and convey their passion for fast cars and what it means to them to have the F1TM in Abu Dhabi.

Jalal Luqman

One of Abu Dhabi's most prominent artists, Jalal is renowned for his provocative work. In 2006 he co-founded Ghaf Art Gallery, the first contemporary art gallery in Abu Dhabi and which encourages the development of upcoming artists. Jalal's inspiration for customizing the F1TM replica car is taken from the moment when man and machine become one. Naming his masterpiece "The Speed Demon", his work depicts the driver's emotions dictate its performance. He feels both men and car are focusing on the finishing line, breathing the same air.

Khalid Mezaina

Speed has inspired Khalid's concept for his customization design and he has seized upon horsepower as a link between Arabic culture and F1TM . His colourful pop art trademark style will draw parallels with UAE culture in a truly unique way. Among other powerful creatures that represent speed and power, Khalid has incorporated the falcon into a design- a species that truly reflects Arabic culture and sentiment.

DJ Bliss

The U.A.E's very own Emarati DJ Bliss (Marwan Parham Al Awadhi)

An 'Ahlan HOT 100' winner for 'Up & Coming' 2009, The UAE's Music Master DJ Bliss broke into the club scene in early 2002 with the roots of his talent stemming from Hip-Hop and R&B. In 2003 Bliss landed himself on Radio and quickly released his first album 'The Projects' with BMG, an exhilarating mix of R&B, in 2003. 'The album entered the TOP 10 at Virgin Megastores in no time and solidified his career and reputation. This allowed him to reach the pinnacle of DJ prominence by winning the Middle East Regional 'PALME DJ of the Year Award' in 2004 and playing at the Ministry of Sound as a grand prize.

By 2006, DJ Bliss was given a position as a radio DJ and entertainer for Radio1, the Number 1 hit music station in the UAE. With his 'Daily Drive-time' show and his established weekend 'Real Flava' show, his music has been described as "beats that streak across mind-expanding mixes of heartfelt melodies". Understanding and foreseeing his audience's expectations of great music, thousands of UAE's residents tune in daily. Regularly interviewing celebrities, such as KanYe West, Akon, Sean Paul and the Black Eyed Peas, Bliss has expanded his reputation on an international level DJ'ing along side these musical sensations.

Taking his power behind the turntables with 'Real Flava' from Dubai to the world, he has traveled across the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa performing his soul-awaking music uplifting clubbers and critics alike.

Expanding his horizons to make an impact on society, creating a union between music and life, Marwan has just started TV presenting on Dubai One with his 2 lifestyle TV show 'Emarati' and 'Twenty Something' airing from October 2009.
